Advantages of streamers

The modern tape streamer features high capacity, low cost, easy storage arrangement, reliability, and stability of operation. 

Yet even huge tape libraries including thousands of such devices, consume relatively little power. Complex arbitrary access can be considered a disadvantage because the tape has to scroll to a given location.

How do streamers differ?

Streamers differ in following ways:

Data storage standard. Nowadays technology, i.e. Linear Tape-Open or LTO for short – is likely to be relevant for the foreseeable future.
